BLACKBURN are reportedly close to finally the capture of Stewart Downing on a free transfer from Middlesbrough.
The former England international, 35 next month, is set to leave his hometown club for a second time.
And Lancashire Live claim he is on course to become Tony Mowbray’s signing of the summer at Ewood Park.
Downing, who played for Aston Villa, Liverpool and West Ham in the Premier League, had a host of other clubs interested in his services.
He had offers from the MLS, Steve Bruce’s Sheffield Wednesday and Boro’s North East rivals Sunderland after talks over an extension at The Riverside broke down.
And his arrival will provide a big boost to the Rovers wide areas following Craig Conway’s departure.
