PSV drop more points against Emmen

The crisis at PSV Eindhoven continued on Sunday with Emmen holding them to a 1-1 draw.

After the poor 4-0 loss at Sporting on Thursday which ended PSV’s Europa League campaign, Mark van Bommel decided to bring Daniel Schwaab back into the starting eleven in place of Timo Baumgartl. Jorrit Hendrix and Bruma also made way for Ryan Thomas and Ritsu Doan.

After 15 minutes, PSV had the lead with Schwaab netting from a Mohammed Ihattaren corner.

Emmen thought they had equalised a few minutes later when Glenn Bijl found the net. However, VAR ruled out his effort for a foul on Steven Bergwijn in the build-up.

PSV created several chances before the break but Bergwijn, Donyell Malen and Ihattaren all failed to find the net.

In the 52nd minute, Emmen were level when Bijl beat Michal Sadilek to a long ball before crossing to Marko Kolar for a simple tap-in.

The home team then took control and they looked the more likely to win the game with Nikolai Laursen going very close. PSV did have the ball in the net before the end but Kostas Mitroglu’s header was ruled out for a clear offside.

The point means PSV are now seven points behind second placed AZ Alkmaar. Emmen are 13th.

Feyenoord see off PEC Zwolle to rise up to seventh

Feyenoord struggled to a slender 1-0 victory over PEC Zwolle thanks to a first half Steven Berghuis strike.

Before kick-off there was a minute silence held for Pim Verbeek, who died earlier this week. The tribute moved Feyenoord boss Dick Advocaat to tears.

Feyenoord welcomed Nicolai Jorgensen back into the starting eleven and he was the first player to go close to an opener. However, the Dane put the ball just wide.

In the 23rd minute, it was 1-0 for the hosts with Steven Berghuis driving a Tyrell Malacia cross into the net.

From that point, Feyenoord struggled to kill the game off and in the end they were thankful to goalkeeper Nick Marsman. The stopper made an excellent save to deny Dean Huiberts and then kept it at 1-0 on several occasions in the second half.

The victory moves Feyenoord into the top seven while PEC Zwolle are 15th.
