Guus Til scored the only goal of the game as PSV Eindhoven saw off Vitesse Arnhem 1-0.

Phillip Cocu returned to Eindhoven with his Vitesse side to face a PSV team without Noni Madueke, who completed his move to Chelsea on Friday. Watching from the stands was Fabio Silva, though, as he is set to join on loan from Wolves.

PSV dominated the opening stages and they got a penalty in the 23rd minute after a foul on Anwar El Ghazi. However, Luuk de Jong’s effort was weak and was saved by Kjell Scherpen.

De Jong then had to depart the field with a head injury after clashing with Melle Meulensteen. Ruud van Nistelrooy brought Johan Bakayoko in for the striker, highlighting a lack of options up front for the PSV boss.

Three minutes into the second half, Guus Til’s strike from distance found a way past Scherpen to give PSV the lead.

Matús Bero, Miliano Jonathans, and Bartosz Bialek all missed chances to level for Vitesse and the home crowd showed their disapproval when Van Nistelrooy decided to substitute the excellent Xavi Simons.

PSV didn’t need a second goal to seal the win and in stoppage time, Scherpen saw red for a challenge on Yorbe Vertessen.

PSV’s win puts them second ahead of Feyenoord’s clash with Ajax on Sunday. Vitesse is down in 14th.
