Alvarez has grown increasingly frustrated that he is not the first choice forward at Man City , as Erling Haaland continues to occupy the forward position and the limelight at the Premier League champions.

However, with City possibly facing sanctions this year with regards to previous transfer spending, the club could sell some players this summer. Alvarez is also wanted by Paris Saint Germain, but the opportunity to link up with fellow countryman Diego Simeone at Atleti may be difficult to turn down.

Alvarez has been in talks with Pep Guardiola regarding his future since March of this year, and Man City CEO Ferran Soriano is said to be open to letting the striker leave.
