Liverpool eyeing shock deal for ex-Man Utd graduate
Liverpool are reportedly considering a shock move for Benfica left-back Alvaro Fernandez, who was previously with Manchester United.
The Reds have had
Andy Robertson as their undisputed left-back, but he is no longer in his prime and could be offloaded in the near future.
The club are eyeing a long-term replacement for him and AS claim that they have been impressed by the progress of Fernandez with Benfica.
The Portuguese giants signed him on loan from United in January before purchasing him in the summer. He has been fantastic for them.
Fernandez has not made a direct goal contribution, but he has been effective with his defensive attributes and ability to provide through balls.
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool can prise him away next summer.
United have the option to buy him back. They also have matching rights on the defender which could prove a stumbling block for the Reds.
Fernandez will no doubt be tempted to return to the Premier League. He did not make a single competitive appearance for the Red Devils.
