Despite the positives, his future is uncertain at the club. His current deal expires in two years and the Red Devils have yet to meet his £200,000 per week demand.

As things stand, there is a distance in negotiations. Chelsea have reportedly made contact with his representative to analyse the possibility of signing him in future.

The Blues currently have a star-studded midfield trio in Moises Caicedo , Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia , but the latter has been injury prone for some period.

Chelsea could look to offload the Belgium international at the end of the campaign. They could make a formal offer for Mainoo if he does not pen fresh terms at United.
