ARSENAL fans were left distraught by a number of their former favourites popping up in the first Team of the Week for FIFA 20.

As the popular gaming series nears its annual release, producers EA named their top performers from the weekend with Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal making the cut.

Koscielny's Bordeaux secured a 2-0 win over Metz in Ligue 1 to go four games unbeaten after the defender's controversial summer move.

And Real Sociedad beat Atletico Madrid in La Liga by the same scoreline, former Gunner Monreal adding the second on debut with a scrambled finish.

These performances came amid Arsenal's shocker on Sunday as they haplessly fumbled a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at Watford.

Laurence tweeted: "Nacho and Koscielny taking the p**s of Arsenal here."

Lewis wrote: "Love how Nacho and Koscielny are in here whilst arsenal's defence is shocking."

While Spaceyy commented: "Imagine Monreal and Koscielny left Arsenal, then put in man of the Match performances. You can’t make this up."

MALEN MAYHEM

As if the defensive duo's presence in FIFA's selection wasn't enough, some picked up on another player with an Emirates Stadium past in the team.

PSV Eindhoven winger Donyell Malen featured for Arsenal's academy side for two years and recently caught the eye with all five goals of a rout over Vitesse.

Dani tweeted: "Totw Nacho, Koscielny and MALEN!!! What the helllllllllll."

As ever, there were fans disappointed that their club's top performer not being picked, most notably Tottenham's Son Heung-min and Schalke star Amine Harit.

But there were still those comedically hoping for Arsenal's current players to be rewarded for their showing.

Honey Badger joked: "No Luiz livid."

Victor Lindelof signs new Manchester United deal to 2024

Manchester United have secured Victor Lindelof's long-term future after agreeing a deal with the defender until at least 2024.

Having finally got David de Gea's extension over the line on Monday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have announced a new and improved contract for the Sweden international.

Lindelof was linked with Barcelona over the summer but has ended any such talk by committing his future to the Old Trafford giants, signing a deal until 2024 with the option of a further year.

"Since the day I arrived at United it has felt like home," he said. "I have grown significantly both as a player and as a person in the last two years and for that I am grateful to everyone at the club for their help and support.

"I love playing football and my aim now is to help the team to win trophies and repay the fans for their unrivalled support.

"I know that everyone at the club shares this vision and will give everything to get Manchester United back to where it belongs.

"I'm still young and know I can improve further but with the help of the boss and his coaching staff, I believe that only good things are ahead for this great club."

Lindelof joined from Benfica in a 35 million euros (£30.75million) deal in 2017 and endured a tough first campaign at United.

But last season the 25-year-old kicked on and was runner-up to Luke Shaw in the club's Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year voting.

United boss Solskjaer said: "Victor has established himself here and has become a very important part of our team.

"He brings calmness on the pitch and I can see that he is determined to help this club and to be successful here.

"I'm extremely happy that he has committed his future to Manchester United. We're all looking forward to working together to deliver the success and get United back to where we know the club belongs."

In Focus: Arsenal's Europa League opponents Eintracht Frankfurt

Arsenal begin their third successive Europa League campaign with a tricky trip to last season's semi-finalists Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday night.

The Gunners were beaten finalists last year, slipping to a 4-1 defeat to Chelsea, and will be hoping to go one step better this campaign.

Here, the PA news agency takes a closer look at the Bundesliga side who will most likely pose the biggest threat to Arsenal's progression from Group F.

Going, going, gone

Frankfurt shocked plenty of onlookers last year as they charged to the last four of the Europa League, only to crash out on penalties to eventual winners Chelsea.

Adi Hutter's side finished seventh in the Bundesliga but were the entertainers in continental football, their talented front three amassing 56 of the 90 goals Frankfurt scored in all competitions.

But that trio have all moved on during the summer, 27-goal top scorer Luka Jovic landing a transfer to Real Madrid, 19-goal Sebastien Haller moving to the Premier League with West Ham and Ante Rebic departing for AC Milan, all for a reported total of over 100million euros.

Replacing such firepower will prove a huge challenge this year and, with Bas Dost joining from Sporting and Andre Silva signing on a season-long loan from Milan, the front line looks as though it will not boast as many goals this time around.

Head coach Hutter was appointed last summer after Niko Kovac left for Bayern Munich.

The Austrian joined having just delivered the Swiss title to Young Boys, although a rocky start at the Commerzbank Arena followed.

Hutter would eventually turn things around and two lengthy unbeaten runs over the course of the campaign saw Eintracht achieve their highest league finish since 2013 and reach the last four of a major European trophy for the first time in 39 years.

Premier League links

Former Huddersfield defender Erik Durm is now at Eintracht Frankfurt

A few names in the Frankfurt squad will be familiar to followers of the Premier League.

Full-back Erik Durm joined from Huddersfield this summer, while combative midfielder Gelson Fernandes had a spell at Manchester City a decade ago before a later loan stint with Leicester.

Jonathan De Guzman won the EFL Cup during a two-year stay at Swansea and joined an elite list of players to have scored in the top flights in England, Spain, Italy and Germany when he hit his first goal for Frankfurt last September.

Fast Tracht

While Arsenal have played five Premier League games heading into this opening Europa League fixture, Frankfurt have had more than double that number of competitive matches with 11.

Hutter had to guide the club through the Europa League qualifiers, seeing off Estonian side Flora, Vaduz of Lichtenstein and Ligue 1 outfit Strasbourg to reach the group stage.

Add to that a DFB-Pokal first-round win at third-tier Waldhof Mannheim and four Bundesliga games – two wins and two losses – and Frankfurt should be more than ready for Unai Emery's visitors.

Star Man

Martin Hinteregger is a key figure in the heart of the Eintracht Frankfurt defence

For a club who sold a number of their leading lights during the summer, it is difficult to know who will emerge in their place over the coming months.

But centre-back Martin Hinteregger is an important cog in Hutter's side. Having initially joined on loan during last season, the deal was made permanent for a reported 12million euros in June.

An Austria international, the 27-year-old played under Hutter at Red Bull Salzburg as the pair won the league title, and he will be key to keeping Arsenal's forwards quiet on Thursday night.
