Chelsea confirm bad news on Wesley Fofana's injury
Chelsea have confirmed that Wesley Fofana has undergone a surgery for an anterior cruciate ligament damage this afternoon.
The Frenchman joined the Blues from Leicester City for £80m last summer, and he had an injury-plagued debut campaign.
Fofana sustained a long-term knee injury in his debut season which kept him out for months. He only returned in the final phase.
He has now suffered another unfortunate setback in his young career, and may not return for the remainder of the season.
The news is a huge blow for the west London giants ahead of their pre-season friendlies. They could be forced to pursue a replacement.
Chelsea have a young Levi Colwill in the squad to provide cover, but they have been linked with a surprise move for Harry Maguire .
Maguire is free to leave Manchester United for around £30 million. The Blues could make a shock attempt to sign him very soon.
United are already preparing for the defender's exit. They recently axed him from the captaincy. Bruno Fernandes could take the role.
