Maatsen was an important member of Burnley 's successful Championship title victory in 2022/23, and the Clarets have made a bid to re-sign the player for yet another season. West Ham , on the other hand, have struggled in their pursuit of new faces and see the 5 foot 6 defender as potential cover for the hard-working Aaron Cresswell .

At 33-years-old, Cresswell understands that he is unlikely to be a regular first-team player. The defender is likely to require an under study for the new campaign, and thus the Hammers' move for Maatsen appears to be going forward.
