The Blues are currently in advanced talks with Brighton for the purchase of Moises Caicedo for around £115m.

However, they are also interested in signing Lavia from the Saints, and they are presently in pole position to land him.

Liverpool recently made a third offer of £45m to the Saints for Lavia, and this was followed up by Chelsea 's £48m proposal.

The Blues have now made a renewed £55m bid for the Belgian teenager, and are confident of getting a deal over the line.

The west London giants are short in the defensive midfield department after losing Mateo Kovacic and N'Golo Kante .

Enzo Fernandez has the ability to play from the role, but the Argentine is more comfortable operating in the number 8 spot.

The arrival of Caicedo and Lavia should provide the World Cup winner with the freedom to express himself this season.
