Mikel Arteta did not provide the extent of the damage, but it has now been confirmed that he is out for six weeks.

The news is a huge setback for the Gunners, who will be without Partey for at least seven games in all competitions.

They have more depth in the number six role with Declan Rice , Jorginho and Mohamed Elneny , but Partey will be a miss.

Rice operated from the defensive midfield spot on Sunday, but he could have played higher up if Partey was fit.
