Andre Onana dropped from Cameroon starting XI
Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana was dropped from the starting XI by Cameroon for their African Cup of Nations clash against Gambia earlier today.
The West African giants required a victory to progress to the round of 16 stage of the tournament and they managed to do so in stellar fashion.
They were trailing 2-1 to Gambia in the 85th minute, but a late fightback saw him secure a 3-2 victory. Gambia had a goal ruled out by VAR.
As a result, the Indominable Lions will stay at the tournament for at least one more game. They will face Nigeria in the round of 16 stage.
Onana would have returned to Manchester if Cameroon exited AFCON. Instead, he is now expected to be in the matchday squad on Saturday.
It remains to be seen whether the Red Devils star will be in the starting XI. Rigobert Song made a surprise decision to drop him to the bench.
Song has had a mixed relationship with Onana since the World Cup in 2022. We won't be surprised if Onana does not feature in the line-up.
