Chelsea confirm season-ending injury for midfielder
Chelsea have confirmed that midfielder Romeo Lavia will be ruled out for the remainder of the campaign with a thigh injury.
The Belgian joined the Blues from Southampton for £55 million after turning down the prospect of signing for Liverpool .
His debut season at the club has been a forgettable one. He spent the first few months on the sidelines with a knee problem.
On his return, he made just one cameo appearance where he picked up a thigh issue. This has now ruled him out for the season.
A statement from Chelsea read: " Romeo Lavia is to unfortunately miss the remainder of our 2023-24 campaign following a setback in his recovery."
"Recent medical assessments have confirmed that Lavia, who sustained a significant thigh injury against Crystal Palace back in December, will not feature again this season."
The Blues have plenty of midfield depth in the squad, but they have certainly missed the defensive qualities of the Belgian.
Lavia was one of the best tacklers in the Premier League last term and he was anticipated to become a key player for the Blues.
The youngster now has a big road to recovery. He will be hoping to be fit in time for the club's pre-season tour of USA.
