Arsenal ace Petr Cech baffled by shocking away form with fewest points in top four English leagues

PETR CECH does not have a clue why Arsenal are so bad on their travels.

The Gunners are the only Premier League team yet to pick up a point on the road in 2018, having lost five straight games following Sunday’s defeat at Newcastle.

Petr Cech admits he is baffled as to why Arsenal are so bad away from home

And Cech admits Arsenal must find an answer before the end of the season if they want to finish any better than sixth, with fifth-placed Chelsea now six points above them.

The keeper, 35, said: “It is very difficult to explain why because until last season we were one of the best teams in terms of the away record.

“But somehow it has completely reversed this season.

“We’ve been battling with it this far and we still we still haven’t found the answer.

“But we still have games to play and we need to make sure we are ready to finish well.

“We are in a position where we must win all our remaining games and hope it lifts us in the table.”

Cech knows that at the very least Arsenal must cut out their defensive blunders, such as the ones which led to goals from Ayoze Perez and Matt Ritchie at St James’ Park.

And he said: “When you commit so many team mistakes, away or home, you get punished and Sunday proved that. Clearly the same things are happening.

“We don’t do these mistakes — the team mistakes — when we play at home.

“Unfortunately, it has affected our results. I think that it’s happened more frequently than normal over the course of the season and it’s obviously cost us our position in the league table.”

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger put Sunday’s defeat down to their Europa League exertions in Moscow on Thursday night.

But while Cech refused to blame their European travels, he does believe their Premier League rivals have an upper hand on them.

He added: “We are in the two competitions, so we need to keep switching between them and do our best.

“We are in a very difficult moment because everybody else has a big advantage.

“In the Europa League we have a semi-final to play so we need to make sure we are ready.”
