RIO FERDINAND has ripped into Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez, claiming he looks like a shadow of the player he was at Arsenal.

The former Red Devils centre-back also claimed that the Chilean international is like a stranger in the squad, playing as though he has lost all of his ability.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has slated Alexis Sanchez's recent performances
The 29-year-old has been claimed to look like a shadow of the player he was at Arsenal

Ferdinand was left enraged with the performance of Jose Mourinho's men as they crashed out of the Champions League after suffering a shock 2-1 defeat against Sevilla.

Wissam Ben Yedder netted twice in quick succession after coming off the bench, while Romelu Lukaku pulled a goal back at the death for the Premier League side.

Speaking on BT Sport, Ferdinand said of the 29-year-old: "Sanchez just looks a shadow of the player he was. When he was at Arsenal, he was a player that everyone looked to for inspiration.

"Here, he just looks like a stranger in this team. When you go to a team and play, you don't lose all your talent.

The Chilean international has been criticised over a number of poor displays

"And that's what it seems like at the moment. In some ways I feel sorry for him, but it just isn't going for him and other players as well.

"The whole 11 today were shocking."

He added: "I didn’t see this result or performance coming.

"They looked like a team thrown together, full of strangers. They played with nerves when they had to take it by the scruff of the neck. This stadium was quiet and it was down to the players.

Alexis Sanchez has netted just once in ten games since joining United in January

“Top teams don’t pick and choose when they play, they turn up week-in, week-out.

"This team hasn’t done that — their attitude seemed off, they were lethargic. It looked like they didn’t have it in them to go out and win."

And it wasn't just Ferdinand to stick the boot in United, as Paul Scholes claimed the Europa League holders lack "desire".
