Feyenoord are still top of the Eredivisie after a simple 2-0 victory over 10-man NEC Nijmegen.

With AZ defeating Go Ahead Eagles earlier on Wednesday, Feyenoord needed a win to go back to the top of the table. Arne Slot decided to make two changes to the side that drew with Ajax as Javairo Dilrosun and Santiago Gimenez started.

After only nine minutes, Marcus Pedersen steamed up the wing before setting up Dilrosun to fire Feyenoord in front. Igor Paixão nearly doubled the lead almost immediately but his effort was denied by NEC goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.

Justin Bijlow stopped Souffian El Karouani from equalising before Feyenoord thought they had a penalty. Referee Edwin van de Graaf was called to the screen by the video referee to look at a possible handball by Mikkel Duelund, but the spot kick was not given.

Just before the break, Feyenoord was awarded a penalty as Ivan Márquez pulled down Gimenez and earned himself a red card. Orkun Kokcu made no mistake with to make it 2-0.

After the break, Feyenoord could have added more goals but Jasper Cillessen kept the score down with a number of saves.

Feyenoord are back to two points clear at the top of the table, while NEC is in 9th.
