Spanish star wants to join Arsenal after rejecting Barcelona
Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino wants to join Arsenal after turning down interest from Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The Spaniard had an impressive 2023/24 campaign where he won the most duels in Europe's top-five leagues. He was also good in the final third with eight goals and five assists from central midfield.
It is now reported that Barcelona were determined to land his signature, but Merino has opted to join Arsenal instead. As a result, the Catalan giants have decided to look at alternative options in the market.
Atletico Madrid have also expressed an interest in signing the former Newcastle United man, but he has reportedly turned down the opportunity to join them, according to Spanish outlet AS.
Hence, Arsenal are in the driving seat to land Merino and a transfer could be completed as soon as they find an agreement with Sociedad. The La Liga outfit want around €30m to part ways with him.
