Wojciech Szczesny lined up for shock Arsenal return?
Ajax and Wolves are both looking to sign Arsenal number 2 goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale before the end of the transfer window, leaving the Gunners short of a backup keeper. Former shot stopper Wojciech Szczesny is available on a free transfer and co
The 34-year-old goalkeeper, who had been considering hanging up his gloves after leaving Juventus by mutual consent yesterday, is a surprise target for Arsenal and manager Mikel Arteta as he looks to add another goalkeeper to his squad ahead of the 2024-25 league season. Szczesny played for Arsenal between the years of 2006 and 2017, before transferring to Juventus, where he played 200 Serie A games for the Turin giants.
The Poland international had his ups and downs at Arsenal during his spell at the club, famously having disciplinary issues whilst Arsene Wenger was the club manager, but it is understood he is desperate to return to North London and has unfinished business at the club.
Wolves are said to be in pole position to sign Aaron Ramsdale before the end of the transfer window , in a deal that could be worth as much as £30 million, but Ajax are known to be in the race to sign a goalkeeper as well. A departure for Ramsdale would open up a place for Arsenal to sign a backup keeper, despite some good form in pre-season for Estonia international Karl Hein.
A return to England for Szczesny would be a huge surprise, but the Pole had been a fan favourite for some time and would make sense for an Arsenal return as he is now available on a free transfer.
