Arsenal have opened talks to sign Spanish star
Arsenal have opened talks with Real Sociedad over the transfer of Mikel Merino, according to David Ornstein.
The Gunners have made just one outfield signing in
Riccardo Calafiori this summer, but there could be more activity soon.
The club have already agreed terms with Merino over a transfer and they have now entered into formal talks with Sociedad.
Sporting director Edu Gaspar has personally travelled to Spain to finalise a deal and an agreement could be reached soon.
Meanwhile, Arsenal need to vacate a player from the squad for Merino's arrival and Eddie Nketiah has been tipped to leave.
The striker has been a fringe player over the past few years and he could now pursue a fresh challenge away from the club.
Marseille recently pulled out of negotiations to land him, but the likes of Fulham and Bournemouth are among his admirers.
Crystal Palace also explored the possibility at the beginning of the summer and they could make a bid for the Gunners graduate.
