Thomas Tuchel almost agreed to replace Erik ten Hag
Thomas Tuchel almost agreed to replace Erik ten Hag as Manchester United's next manager, according to BILD.
The German tactician was heavily linked with the United job earlier this year, and he had a secret meeting with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe .
However, the discussions reached an abrupt end with Tuchel not fully convinced over taking charge of the Red Devils.
It is now revealed that Tuchel was 'almost in agreement' with United, but the deal was killed due to the club's transfer policy.
Ratcliffe preferred a hands-off policy for the manager with the recruitment team in charge of the transfer activity at United.
This was something which Tuchel was not in agreement with. United eventually accepted to continue with Ten Hag this term.
The Dutchman is already under pressure with two defeats in the opening three games and he needs to turn the club's fortunes soon.
Should the club continue in a downward trajectory over the coming games, the hierarchy could consider a change at the helm.
