Mikel Arteta praises 26yo Arsenal star after derby win
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has heaped praise on Gabriel Magalhaes following the club's 1-0 Premier League win over Tottenham Hotspur on the road.
The Gunners returned to winning ways with a solid victory over their north London rivals on Sunday. Magalhaes was the difference maker with the only goal with a fine header.
Speaking after the 1-0 victory, the manager was full of praise for the centre-back, who has now netted 15 goals in the Premier League since his arrival from Lille four years ago.
He said: "I think the way he has evolved, first of all as a person, and then on his role at the club, at the team has been phenomenal.
"It's been great to watch. This is why we are here.
"He applies himself incredibly well and he wants it. And when that happens, normally good things happen to this kind of people."
Magalhaes has been brilliant alongside William Saliba in the heart of the defence. Saliba has often got the plaudits, but Magalhaes deserves full credit for the derby win.
With the victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Arsenal have jumped to second in the league standings after four games. They are two points adrift of Manchester City.
