Erik ten Hag explains why Marcus Rashford was dropped
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has said that it was an easy decision to replace Marcus Rashford with Alejandro Garnacho against Crystal Palace today.
Rashford has netted three goals since the international break, but he was not included in the starting XI against the Eagles. Ten Hag made the decision to pick Garnacho on the left wing for the Premier League game.
When asked about the surprise choice, he said: "It’s not a difficult decision because we have to rotate. We have so many games to cover and we have to give Alejandro games."
"As we have all season, he has a lot of end product - so many goals, so many assists. He needs starts and he’s started only one time this season."
Prior to the encounter, there were suggestions that Rashford could play up front at Selhurst Park with Garnacho and Amad Diallo on the flanks.
However, Ten Hag had other plans in mind. He preferred to start Joshua Zirkzee in the number nine role with Garnacho and Diallo out wide.
Garnacho had a good performance with plenty of shots but he was unlucky. He hit the woodwork and saw two fine saves from Dean Henderson .
