Man Utd have big advantage over Liverpool for Alvaro Fernandez
Manchester United have a big advantage in deciding Alvaro Fernandez's future amid transfer interest from Liverpool.
Fernandez joined Benfica from United on loan in January. The Portuguese outfit turned his move into a permanent move last summer by triggering a buy-out clause in the region of £5 million.
The 21-year-old has been one of the best performers for the Primeira Liga outfit this term and his progress had caught the eye of the Reds, who are eyeing a long-term successor to Andy Robertson .
AS claimed that the Reds are most interested in the left-back and they could have the upper hand in the pursuit ahead of Real Madrid as well as Barcelona.
However, United are the club with the biggest advantage, considering they agreed a buy-back clause and matching rights when Fernandez made the switch to Benfica.
Fernandez was out-of-favour at United and did not make a competitive appearance, but the scenario could change if Luke Shaw or Tyrell Malacia make way soon.
Both have been injury prone in their careers. Should the situation continue next year, United could seriously contemplate a change at left-back.
