Why Benjamin Sesko turned down Arsenal last summer
RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko turned down a move to Arsenal as he was reluctant to play second fiddle to Kai Havertz, according to The Athletic.
The Gunners were widely tipped to land a new striker last summer and Sesko's name was regularly mentioned at the end of the 2023/24 season.
However, he ended up penning a new contract with Leipzig instead citing that staying at the German club would be best for his ongoing development.
It is now revealed that Sesko was open to a summer move to the Gunners, but changed his decision after witnessing Havertz's form leading the line.
The German was exceptional with his goal contributions in the second half of last season and Sesko did not want to play second fiddle to Havertz.
Despite this, Arsenal have not given up on their pursuit of the Slovenian star and they are prepared to make a second approach next summer.
With Havertz struggling to find the net in recent times, Sesko could be assured the number nine role on a permanent basis next season.
