The Blues made several changes to the squad in the recent window. The main focus was on their midfield with three key signings.

They signed Moises Caicedo , Romeo Lavia and  Lesley Ugochukwu , but it seems they were interested in someone else too.

As per 90min, the Blues made an approach to the Magpies for Guimaraes, but the Tyneside outfit dismissed a possibility of a sale.

Aside from the Blues, Manchester City also made contact with Eddie Howe 's side, but they received the same response.

Newcastle are aiming for big things under their Saudi owners and talks are ongoing with Guimaraes over a long-term contract.

The club are planning to make more high-profile signings going forward, but Howe's future may not be certain any longer.

Newcastle started with a win this season, but have since suffered three losses. The pressure is now on Howe to respond.
