Chelsea make Ian Maatsen contract decision
Chelsea have reportedly triggered the one-year extension in the contract of Ian Maatsen, according to Standard Sport.
The Dutchman spent the previous campaign on loan with Burnley and he was a key figure in their promotion to the Premier League.
Maatsen went on to have a good pre-season with the Blues in the United States, but he remains a fringe player at the west London club.
The left-back rejected the chance to rejoin Burnley on a permanent basis last month, but he could yet head for the exit door.
His existing deal was due to expire in the summer of 2024, but the Blues have now extended his stay for another 12 months.
This is unlikely to change anything. Maatsen has no plans of staying with the Blues unless he has the guarantee of regular first-team football.
The club graduate is expected to leave for a high-profile club in either January or next summer. Barcelona are keeping tabs on his situation.
