The club's hierarchy have already spoken with the player's representatives and they could go head-to-head with the Gunners to land his services in the next transfer window .

Fluminense have set an asking price of €40m for the highly-talented midfielder, who was on the radar of Premier League counterparts Liverpool last summer.

The Merseyside giants are no longer in the hunt for his services, but he could still end up in the Premier League with United and Arsenal keen on securing his signature.
