Barcelona battling Newcastle for Man Utd legend?
Barcelona could compete with Newcastle for the services of Manchester United legend David de Gea in January.
The Catalan giants are expected to be without Marc-Andre ter Stegen for a few weeks after a minor procedure.
They currently have Inaki Pena as the deputy, but are exploring the transfer market for a new shot-stopper this winter.
The Magpies are also on the look out for a new goalkeeper with Nick Pope out for five months after a shoulder surgery.
Both teams are interested in signing De Gea. It remains to be seen whom the Spaniard chooses to join in the near future.
De Gea has been a free agent since the expiry of his contract at United last summer. He has turned down several proposals.
He could have easily chosen to move to Saudi Arabia for big money, but he appears keen on prolonging his stay in Europe.
The Magpies could be an ideal destination for him, considering he would be guaranteed regular playing time for months.
