Arsenal eyeing shock move for Matthijs de Ligt
Arsenal are interested in a surprise deal to sign Bayern Munich centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, according to The Athletic.
De Ligt has been with the German champions for the past 18 months but he is starting to contemplate a fresh move elsewhere.
The Dutchman has been playing second fiddle to Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae this season under manager Thomas Tuchel .
His situation may not improve barring an injury crisis and The Athletic claim that Arsenal hold a keen interest in signing him.
A mid-season deal is unlikely on the cards, but the Gunners could realistically make an approach for him next summer.
The Gunners currently have William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes as the undisputed pairing in the heart of the four-man defence.
However, manager Mikel Arteta is eyeing strong competition for places. Jurrien Timber was signed for the same reason from Ajax.
The Dutchman suffered a serious knee injury but should be a key player next term. He could be joined by his compatriot De Ligt.
