Chelsea give up on signing Euro 2024 star
Chelsea have given up on signing Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori amid concrete interest from Arsenal, according to reports.
The Blues were aiming to bring the Italian star to Stamford Bridge this summer, but they were met by competition from the Gunners.
Arsenal have since agreed terms with the former Basel man and they are currently on the verge of landing him in a deal worth €55m.
Amidst this, the Blues have ended their pursuit of his services. They have instead decided to sign Renato Veiga from Basel for €15m.
Veiga was signed by the Swiss giants last summer after Calafiori made the switch to Bologna. He has a similar profile as the Italian.
Chelsea have now decided to land his signature. The Portuguese ace is expected to undergo his medical within the next 24 hours.
The Blues have already made four signings in the form of Tosin Adarabioyo , Marc Guiu , Omari Kellyman and Kiernan Dewsbury -Hall.
