Ajax has confirmed the signing of Villarreal goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli on a three-and-a-half-year deal with the option for another year.

Ajax has paid €8 million plus a further €2 million in add-ons for the 30-year-old Argentinian, who was part of their World Cup-winning squad.

Rulli is set to replace the aging Remko Pasveer as number one in Amsterdam, with Maarten Stekelenburg as the other option. Jay Gorter is likely to leave on loan in the coming weeks.

The 30-year-old made 14 league appearances for Villarreal this season and previously played for Montpellier and Real Sociedad.
