Atletico & Barcelona enter race for Arsenal target
Arsenal are set to face competition from Atletico Madrid and Barcelona for the services of Mikel Merino this summer.
The Gunners are keen on adding more quality and experience in the squad and Merino has been identified as a potential target.
Mikel Arteta is an admirer of the Euro 2024 winner, but it appears the club could face competition to land his signature.
Barcelona recently made contact with the player's agents and Atletico are now contemplating a proposal for the 28-year-old.
Merino has been with Sociedad for the past six seasons, but he looks likely to leave with his current deal expiring in June 2025.
He currently has a release clause worth €60m in his contract, but Sociedad are expected to sanction his departure for €35m.
Arsenal are yet to make an outfield signing in the transfer window and the fans will be hoping for some good news soon.
Aside from a central midfielder, the Gunners are looking to sign a marquee striker, versatile defender and a wide attacker.
