The Gunners recently completed the signing of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna and they are now eyeing a new midfielder.

The club have agreed personal terms with Mikel Merino and reports claim that they are expected to finalise his transfer soon.

However, Gazzetta dello Sport claim that the north Londoners are also interested in Rabiot who is currently a free agent.

Rabiot left the Bianconeri after the expiry of his contract last month and he is said to be eyeing Champions League football.

This has ruled out clubs such as Manchester United, but Arsenal , Real Madrid and Atletico are also eyeing his signature.

It remains to be seen whether the Gunners make an offer, considering him and Merino are similar kind of central midfielders.

Both are left-footed and operate from the number eight role. It seems unlikely that Rabiot will arrive at the Emirates.
