Arsenal told to pay £34m to sign 28yo midfielder
Arsenal have been told to pay £34 million to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino before the transfer deadline, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The Gunners have been locked in negotiations with Sociedad for Merino for the last few weeks, but they have yet to find a suitable agreement.
They recently made an improved offer of £30m for the 28-year-old, but the La Liga outfit want at least £34m to sanction his summer departure.
Sociedad's president has flown to the English capital today and it is anticipated that a suitable deal will be negotiated pretty soon.
The Spanish outfit are aware that Merino wants to join the Gunners this month and they want a quick resolution to find a replacement.
Merino has already agreed personal terms with the Gunners. He has turned down Atletico Madrid for a move to the north London giants.
It is only a matter of time before Merino makes the switch. Arsenal will be hoping to involve him in the squad before the international break.
