Erik ten Hag blocked Man Utd from signing PL striker
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag blocked the club from signing Ivan Toney from Brentford this summer, according to ESPN.
The Red Devils were determined to land a new striker in the recent transfer window and Toney was initially highlighted as a top target.
However, the club did not proceed with a formal approach and they ended up signing Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for around £34m.
Toney, on the other hand, made the move to Al Ahli for £40m. It is now revealed that Ten Hag played a big part in United's rejection.
The Dutch tactician was not convinced that the striker would suit the club, given his inability to press opponents on a consistent basis.
The player's representatives were in contact with United's hierarchy, but Ten Hag did not provide the green light for the transfer.
Toney is now plying his trade in the Saudi Pro League and it remains to be seen whether he will return to English football in future.
