Alvaro Fernandez makes Man Utd transfer decision
Benfica left-back Alvaro Fernandez prefers to join Real Madrid despite Manchester United having the option to buy him back.
The 21-year-old signed for the Portuguese side on loan from United last winter. He was recruited on a permanent basis in the summer for 6 million euros.
United have the option to buy him back for around 20 million euros next year, but Record claim that the player has different plans in mind.
Fernandez was in the Madrid academy before moving to Old Trafford and he has his sights on returning to Los Blancos as a first-team player.
Benfica are also open to the opportunity, considering they can demand close to the release clause (50 million euros) from the UCL champions.
United still have a big advantage with the buy-back clause in his contract and they could opt to sign him before selling him off for a profit.
He could also have a future at the club with the uncertainty over the fitness levels of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia for some period of time.
