Former Chelsea midfielder joins Ligue 1 club for free
Former Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko has joined Lorient on a free transfer agreement, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Frenchman spent the previous campaign on loan with AC Milan in Serie A, but he made just three appearances for them.
On his return to the Blues, the hierarchy decided to release him from his contract despite his deal expiring in June 2024.
Bakayoko has now got the chance to revive his career with Lorient, who finished 10th in the French top-flight last season.
The Ligue 1 side have ambitious plans for the ongoing campaign. They recently tried to sign Donny van de Beek on loan.
Manchester United gave the green light for the temporary move, but the midfielder refused to agree terms with Lorient.
Van de Beek is still expected to leave the Red Devils. He is assessing all possible offers before the transfer window closes.
The likes of Genoa and Galatasaray could make loan bids for him on deadline day. Real Sociedad could also make a late move.
