Man Utd suffer blow as defender signs new contract
Manchester United have been handed a blow with defender Jarrad Branthwaite signing a new long-term deal at Everton.
The 21-year-old spent the previous campaign on loan with PSV Eindhoven. He started as a regular on the bench, but became a consistent starter following the World Cup.
PSV were keen on signing him on a permanent basis, but the Toffees made it clear that they wanted their graduate to stay with them.
The youngster has already started five Premier League games this season and he has now penned a new contract until June 2027.
The news is a blow for the Red Devils, who have been monitoring him for some time. Erik ten Hag is believed to be an admirer of him.
There have been claims that United could spend £50 million on Branthwaite next year, but that price could now increase.
The Toffees are in a strong position to keep him, and could easily demand £80m for one of England's best young centre-backs.
