Mauricio Pochettino explains why Enzo Fernandez was dropped
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed the reason behind Enzo Fernandez starting on the bench versus Sheffield United.
The Blues returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over the Blades. Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson were the scorers in the second half.
Speaking after the game, Pochettino explained that Fernandez was on the bench as Moises Caicedo and Conor Gallagher were the right combination.
The Argentine tactician added to hint that Fernandez could be involved in Tuesday's Carabao Cup quarter-final against Newcastle United.
He said: "Only can play 11 and sometimes you need one characteristic and today we saw the combination between Caicedo and Gallagher."
"Cole no.10. It was the best combination for today but it doesn't mean Enzo won't play on Tuesday."
Chelsea climbed back to the top of the table after beating the Blades. They are now 10th in the standings with 22 points on the board.
The club will be aiming to continue the momentum by beating the Magpies in the last eight of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday at home.
