Carlo Ancelotti open to signing Manchester United defender
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti would be open to a reunion with Manchester United defender Raphael Varane this winter.
The Frenchman has had a mixed campaign with the Red Devils. He was recently warming the bench but has become a key player once more.
His current deal expires at the end of the season, but United have the option of keeping him for another year with an extension clause.
According to Sport, Madrid and Ancelotti are keeping tabs on their former star and could make an approach to sign him this winter.
David Alaba recently suffered a serious knee injury and this has left Antonio Rudiger and Nacho as the only fit centre-backs.
Eder Militao picked up a knee injury of his own over the summer and he is not expected to return to action until March at least.
Hence, the club are eyeing a fresh solution and they could be prepared to pay around €20 million to land Varane from United.
Varane recently delivered a man of the match performance at Liverpool where United had Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof injured.
Alongside the duo, Lisandro Martinez is also in the treatment room and United could resist parting ways with Varane next month.
