Chelsea planning swoop for Karim Benzema?
Chelsea could make a surprise swoop for Al-Ittihad striker Karim Benzema as they look to strengthen their attack this month.
The Frenchman signed for the Saudi Arabian giants on a free transfer last summer and he has scored 12 goals for them so far.
However, he is now contemplating a move elsewhere and he has been left out of the club's pre-season matches in the coming days.
A return to Europe has been touted for Benzema and The Telegraph claim that the Blues could make an ambitious move for him.
Benzema is prepared to accept a humongous pay-cut to return to familiar surroundings, but Al-Ittihad won't make it easy.
They are likely to demand a sizeable loan package for the 36-year-old, who has a contract with them until the summer of 2026.
Aside from the Blues, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Lyon have also been credited with an interest in signing Benzema.
The striker was sensational for Madrid last term with 31 goals and would no doubt be an upgrade for Chelsea up front if he joins.
