Como pushing to sign former Man Utd star
Serie A newcomers Como are pushing to sign former Manchester United defender Raphael Varane on a free transfer this summer.
The Frenchman parted ways with United at the end of last season. The club had the option to extend his £350,000 per week contract for another campaign, but decided against doing so.
It was initially predicted that Varane would be open to a big-money move to Saudi Arabia, but the World Cup winner has made the decision to prolong his career in European football next term.
Lens have been exploring a free transfer in recent weeks, but Fabrizio Romano claims that Serie A newcomers Como are in pole position to land him with the help of manager Cesc Fabregas .
Varane has already spoken directly with the former Arsenal star. It remains to be seen whether he is prepared to accept a staggering pay-cut to make the switch to Como, who have high ambitions of staying in the top tier.
