Sparta Rotterdam has confirmed the signing of Norwegian forward Elias Hoff Melkersen on loan from Hibernian.

The 20-year-old has been with Hibs since January last year and he has three goals in 29 appearances for the Scottish side.

Melkersen now joins Sparta on loan until the end of the season and the Rotterdammers have got an option to make the deal permanent.

Sparta technical director Gerard Nijkamp on the club site, “After the departure of Mario Engels, we were looking for the same type of player: an attacker with speed and individual action, who can also play on the side. Elias came on our radar during this search and was able to convince us of his qualities.”

Melkersen joins the club as a back-up to main striker Tobias Lauritsen.
