The La Liga outfit refused to part ways with the 23-year-old unless the Gunners were prepared to trigger his €30m release clause.

Mikel Arteta 's side eventually opted to sign Neto on loan from Bournemouth , but they have not ruled out a future move for Garcia.

Romano claims that the Gunners could return for the Olympic gold medalist in either January or at the end of the campaign.

Espanyol were able to convince the shot-stopper to stay, but Garcia is likely to push for a bigger challenge at some point next year.
