UEFA rectify mistake on Gabriel Martinelli's shirt number
UEFA have rectified the mistake on Gabriel Martinelli's shirt number during the Arsenal squad announcement for the Champions League.
The Gunner named their 25-man A-list squad for the league phase on Wednesday night. Martinelli was one of those included, but there was a surprise regarding his shirt number.
UEFA highlighted that he will be wearing the no.10 jersey instead of his current no.11. This led to claims that Martinelli has been rewarded the jersey by Arsenal , but that is not the case.
The European association have rectified their mistake on their official website. Martinelli will continue to wear the no.11 shirt for the remainder of the ongoing campaign with the Gunners.
Arsenal will be playing eight teams in the new Champions League format with four at home and four on the road. They will need to finish in the top eight to ensure direct entry to the last 16.
If they were to finish 9th to 24th in the 36-team table, they will have to play a double-legged knock-out round in order to make the round of 16.
