The Ivorian ace has been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Enzo Maresca and he is expected to be sold.

The transfer window s have already closed across Europe's top-five leagues, but Fofana still has offers from elsewhere.

The Athletic claim that the Blues are in negotiations with AEK over a permanent transfer for the ex-Molde man.

The Greek transfer window formally closes on Wednesday evening and Chelsea are hopeful of finding an agreement.

Fofana arrived at Chelsea with a big reputation, having scored plenty of goals during his short time with Molde.

He was being compared with Erling Haaland while some likened him to former Chelsea marksman Didier Drogba .

However, the striker has failed to live up to the expectations and Chelsea are now prepared to cut their losses on him.

The 21-year-old was signed for around £10m, but the Blues may have to accept a lesser fee from AEK for his services.
