Ten Hag explains decision to play Mazraoui as no.10 vs Fenerbahce
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has explained the decision to start Noussair Mazraoui in the number 10 position against Fenerbahce.
The Red Devils faced Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday night without
Bruno Fernandes
, who was suspended for the game.
Christian Eriksen was initially touted to fill the void, but Ten Hag made the shock decision to feature Mazraoui from the attacking role.
Mazraoui has been a right-back for most of his career, but Ten Hag explained that the 26-year-old has played as a no.10 when he was at Ajax.
He said: "I know him from before at Ajax I played him there. Also as a full back he plays in the half spaces. So he’s capable to do this job."
Fernandes was unavailable for the game after his sending-off against Porto before the international break. He will return at the weekend.
United take on West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday and they will be aiming to secure back-to-back wins in the Premier League.
