Real Madrid star confirms he said no to Liverpool
Real Madrid star Rodrygo has revealed that he turned down a move to Liverpool from Santos in the summer of 2017.
The 23-year-old is currently one of the best forwards in the world and he has already registered 15 goals and eight assists this term.
Speaking to The Guardian, Rodrygo has now revealed that he could have joined the Reds as a teenager but rejected the proposal.
Liverpool agreed a package of €3 million with Santos for his services, but he decided to stay and make history with his boyhood club.
He said: "I almost joined Liverpool in 2017, the deal was done for €3m. It collapsed because I said no."
"I wanted to stay at Santos, make history, finish my studies and then leave..even though the offer from Liverpool was very good."
Rodrygo eventually moved to Madrid in the summer of 2019. Over the past 18 months, he has become a key player for them up front.
He is currently one of the regular starters under manager Carlo Ancelotti , but there is speculation that he could move to England soon.
