Arsenal make second bid to sign Italian defender
Arsenal have made a second proposal to sign Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori this summer, according to Corriere dello Sport.
The Gunners have already agreed terms over a long-term deal with the Italian and they are now in advanced talks with Bologna over a transfer.
Their opening bid worth €47m including add-ons was turned down, but they are now expected to make a renewed proposal of €55m.
That is expected to meet the asking price of the Serie A outfit. Corriere suggest that it is only a matter of time before he signs.
Calafiori has largely operated as a centre-back for Bologna, but he has primarily a left-back during his time at Roma and Basel.
Injuries hampered his progress during the formative years of his career, but the 22-year-old is currently one of the most sought-after stars.
Arsenal already have the best defence in the Premier League and their backline could become stronger with Calafiori's summer arrival.
Calafiori could be a nailed-on starter from the left-back position.
