Both players have gone on to make an impression at their clubs; with Alvarez winning everything at the highest level for City, and Rudiger becoming the best centre back in the world.

United have had to resort to a defensive pairing of Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans in recent months, despite the recent return to the team of Raphael Varane .

Rudiger is seen as one of the players that could well have ended up at United.
